A snippet of my hour-long talk, “Coaching Agile Minds”. Over a hundred coaches attended the Urban Lacrosse Alliance Conference in Baltimore, MD, and it was a joy to share my Mental Agility tools with them.
One coach stated:
I thought that this topic showed the importance of understanding body chemistry and how it relates to emotional responses across the developmental lifespan of a person. Gordon showed the importance of being educated about basic psychology and educational principals in order to help youth, whether it is the most difficult or the most easy going player.
Speaking at the 37th NASO Annual Summit in Spokane, WA about my history of depression, anxiety, and attempts at ending my life by suicide.
I shared a few Mental Agility tools from the Sports Officials toolkit that I created specifically for this presentation.
This was my opportunity to be vulnerable on stage in front of my officiating colleagues, and to demonstrate that those with mental illness can learn to work with their distorted thoughts and be successful on and off the field.
Speaking to the Pace Academy Upper School about the stress response, and uses a novel method to create some anxiety in the attendees in a safe and humorous way.
Following my speech, I held several workshops with interested students over the course of the school day covering topics such as introduction to Cognitive Behavior Therapy.
