Head Coach,
Walsh Jesuit High School Lacrosse

Our meeting with you was a very valuable experience. You did an amazing job keeping the boys engaged through your energy, personal stories, and by addressing our teams specific needs. When we debriefed the next day as a team, I asked “who took at least 1 useful thing away from the meeting.” Every single player and coach raised their hand. Additionally, we have a young team but managed to win our first two games by 1 goal each, one of them in overtime. Our boys were prepared and calm in crunch time.

Having Gordon work with our lacrosse program was great! We had 60 high school student-athletes in a room and he was able to keep them engaged while teaching them important science about mental health. His ability to explain complex things very simply and straight forward is wonderful. Coming out of a pandemic this topic is more important than ever. Gordon did an amazing job of giving breaks and having activities that got the boys active.

Trying to figure out who you are as a teenager is hard enough before adding in the stress of academics and athletics. I truly believe having him work with our program is going to pay off not only on the field but in life beyond high school for all of our players. Thanks for your time, effort and compassion Gordon.

The Mental Edge Workshop was very beneficial. I think of you (so does the team during every National Anthem). I used your strategy of cold water on the wrist already as well to help curb high anxiety with a player. Thank you for all of your help. Extremely helpful!

Gordon did a phenomenal job with my team, he was interactive, engaging, and most importantly real. The help and training he gave to the boys is something they can do on a daily basis, on their own, or to seek help with them. The workshop was segmented into different areas of mental agility, changing with each break while still having continuity and keeping the boys engaged. It is tough keeping high school boys engaged for the time Gordon did and that is a testament in and of itself. Gordon's approach to the boys was not that of a speaker, but a teacher...engaging, answering questions that came up, and providing the information in a manner that was age appropriate. Gordon will definitely be coming back to work with my program in the future and several years to come.

Gordon was excellent! In part because of his background as a player, and current role as an official, Gordon was able to relate to our student athletes through his demonstrations and stories. Furthermore, he gave actionable advice, that our players and coaches can use in both trivial, and more significant moments of stress. Gordon's presentation will prove invaluable in the coming years.

Gordon’s presentation was a breath of fresh air for our officials conference. His ability to relate to our officials through his own experiences in lacrosse helped to create a unique experience, but ultimately, he covers topical subjects that impact all people.

He takes on difficult, if not taboo subjects, and approaches them with understanding, compassion, and a touch of humor. His ability to engage the audience and willingness to share own personal experiences made for a real and raw experience. I think everyone in the room was able to takeaway something from hearing Gordon speak.

There is only one way to describe Gordon’s presentation on Mental Agility to our association: First Class.

The information and tips for our officials were not only professionally put together, they were invaluable to our association; not only applying to on-the-field situations but life in general.

I highly recommend this presentation to any and all official’s associations. Can’t wait for the next presentation.

Gordon’s presentation used lacrosse officiating as the common point but it contained so many life lessons and thoughts to consider. The discussion was heartfelt and showed the passion Gordon has for the subject matter and his desire for us all to gain perspective on how lacrosse and officiating makes us better people and understand ourselves better.

It was a fantastic experience.

We are so honored that Gordon took the time to speak with our team! He was articulate and engaging, dipping into a bit of the science behind mental health, and how it ties into athletics. He gave our athletes tips and tools to help with anxiety and when you’re feeling down.

Telling his story gave my athletes confidence to ask for help and helped them realize that everyone struggles sometimes, it’s just how you handle that struggle that can make all the difference.

Being a college athlete you have to juggle a lot and have lots of different priorities on your plate. Gordon emphasized how important it is to take care of yourself so that you can give your best to your different priorities!

Forever thankful for you Gordon! I will be telling all my coach friends about what a great job you did!

Thank you for making a difference.

Sara Eden
Upper School Counselor,
Pace Academy

Having Gordon speak at Pace was a true gift.

He was open, honest, raw, and humorous about tough subjects. The students were hanging on every word he said and many wanted to continue the conversation after his talk was over.

Students connected with him because he talks the talk and walks the walk. He's been in dark places and is real about that, but he also talks about the many strategies he uses to deal with negative feelings and leads them through some of those exercises. Students left his talk with new coping skills and ideas for self-care.

Gordon's content is excellent, and so is his delivery. He's passionate about the subject of mental health and helping others; students and faculty were grateful for his visit.

Gordon’s presentation on our Referee Voices panel at the National Association of Sports Officials Summit in 2019 stood out in terms of audience engagement, messaging and take-aways for attendees.

He grabs your attention, holds on, uses tremendously unique examples to drive his point home and delivers punch lines with zest and authority.

If you’re looking for a speaker who commands the stage and motivates the crowd, Gordon is your person.

Gordon provided a remarkable presentation on Mental Agility for those in attendance at the Urban Alliance Conference in Baltimore, MD. My one takeaway from his presentation, which contained many was: When a negative thought arises, we should train ourselves to go through a 3 step process:

  1. Identify the thought, is it positive or negative, if negative.

  2. Challenge it with logic.

  3. Replace it with a positive thought.

Simple… yes. Effective… very! Give it a try! I have, it works and has the ability to change your life!
